Amy Childs supports Stafford College’s entrepreneurs of the future…

Submitted by on February 2, 2015 – 7:20 am |

Amy Childs launched her ‘TEEG task’ competition to current students – challenging students to design a brand new product for the beauty industry and write a mini business plan to support their idea.Students on hair and beauty courses at Stafford College are focusing on developing new business ideas and an entrepreneurial mindset as part of a new programme launched by The Entrepreneurial Education Group (TEEG).

The programme was launched at Stafford College by TEEG Hair and Beauty Curriculum Ambassador, businesswoman and TV Star Amy Childs.

24 year-old Amy is estimated to be worth in excess of £10m and has a business empire comprising two clothing stores, a beauty salon, a tanning academy, her own line of beauty and tanning products and a clothing line which is sold online.

During her visit to the college, Amy launched her ‘TEEG task’ competition – challenging students to design a brand new product for the beauty industry and write a mini business plan to support their idea.  She also met with students and staff from the college’s hair and beauty academies, as well as taking part in a Q&A with students.

The competition will see students following the 12 Steps to Success programme that the college is implementing in partnership with The Entrepreneurial Education Group (TEEG).This enables students to develop their business skills and complete enterprise tasks with the chance of winning work experience at Amy’s Brentwood salon, as well as the opportunity to develop their product idea into part of her beauty products range.

OCR has been responsible for working with the high profile curriculum ambassadors to develop challenges and initiatives for the benefit of colleges and their students.

Charlotte Bosworth, Director of Skills and Employment at OCR comments: “What we know from listening to teachers, employers and young people is that there is a definite need to provide learners with the opportunities to practice entrepreneurial skills while also learning specific skills for their chosen career.  This may often require a different approach to traditional learning and this challenge, which has been launched by Amy Childs, is a great example of how we can inspire and motivate young people through alternative methods of teaching.  We know it is not always easy for colleges to get role models to come in a share their knowledge with students, so we’re delighted to have supported the launch of this great initiative.”

Stafford College Principal Beverly Smith comments: “We’re thrilled to be a part of such a ground-breaking enterprise programme. It fits perfectly with what Stafford College is about – we’re dedicated to giving students new opportunities to thrive and gain valuable experience that they can take with them into the employment, their own business, or higher education”.

She continues: “The College has a key focus on enterprise, giving students the opportunity to explore business ideas – and this programme is an excellent opportunity to do just that.

Amy Childs, TEEG’s Hair and Beauty Curriculum Ambassador, said:  “I’m so pleased to be a part of such an amazing programme. I’ve started my businesses from scratch and know only too well how important it is to have the right foundations in place to succeed. Stafford College is perfect for my TEEG task, as it has a strong focus on entrepreneurship, as well as hair and beauty with its extensive courses and its own hair and beauty salon, The Beauty Academy. “

She adds: “I’ll be picking the winning design and whoever wins may be given the opportunity to develop the product for my exclusive beauty range and offered work experience at The Amy Childs Salon in Brentwood, Essex!”
