British Training Company Wows LA…

Submitted by on September 26, 2014 – 7:30 am |

The Nelson Training Team in LANelson training, a multi-award winning training company from Malvern, Worcestershire surprised and delighted 18 delegates at a showcase training session in Orange County, California, organised by the British American Business Council Orange County and supported by United Kingdom Trade and Investment.

The session covered a range of topics from customer service to performance management, and demonstrated how they use drama to bring everyday work based problems to life and moreover how to use this engaging approach to overcome common critical business issues including customer complaints, managing change and reducing employee absenteeism.

Nelson Training’s Managing Director, Viv Nelson explains:

“We wanted to see if our approach to training using interactive comedy and drama would work in the Unites States. Whilst we know it’s popular here in the UK and also in Australia, we needed to identify possible cultural differences this side of the pond. But we needn’t have worried. They loved the English accents and humour.  Although a few of our English phrases stirred a few blank expressions! We are absolutely thrilled with the reception and response we got.”

Feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive.

“What a great demonstration, a unique way to convey the pro’s and cons of interviewing and customer care” commented local business owner Pauline Johnson following the session.

The training methods used were ‘fascinating’ according to marketing consultant Juanita Giaglio. ”The concept is unique and a good way to communicate ideas and concepts.”

Ryan Wallace, UK Trade and Investment’s Los Angeles representative who attended the session said, “This was my first experience of using drama in training. It was great.”

Several attendees urged Nelson Training to get in touch with them about follow on business training and conference opportunities in California.

“We are really grateful to the British American Business Council Orange County and particularly to Valerie Blackholly, their Executive Director for organising and promoting this session and we are really looking forward to following up the great contacts we’ve made” said Viv Nelson.
