Business community enjoys wedding showcase at revamped Botanical Gardens…
Over 300 guests from the Midlands business community gathered for a showcase of bridal hospitality and entertainment at the refurbished Birmingham Botanical Gardens, hosted by wedding planner and caterer, Itihaas, alongside Ampersand.
Drawing on their collective experience, Itihaas founder Raj Rana and Colin Cook, Operations Director at Ampersand Catering, shared insights into the secrets and complexities of the wedding trade. The evening featured Jeremy Walker, a well-known connector in Birmingham’s professional circles, as Master of Ceremonies.
Guests included businesspeople, journalists and local community leaders. The attendees were welcomed to the historic Botanical Gardens with a champagne reception and an array of pre-dinner appetisers including biryani and Indian canapes.
The newly refurbished terrace and garden suites formed the backdrop for the evening’s entertainment. A ‘bride and groom’ decked out in traditional Indian wedding attire added to the drama of the evening, posing beneath an elaborate floral bower.
Later, guests sat down to a wedding banquet featuring authentic Indian cuisine by Itihaas. Reflecting the growing trend for East-West fusion in Asian weddings, entertainment included both a classical violinist and a rousing troupe of Panjabi bhangra dancers, who taught enthusiastic guests some basic steps.
Raj Rana, founder of Itihaas, commented:
“Although we deliver around 150 weddings each year, every occasion is unique and has to be treated as such. This event really gave us a chance to give guests a taste of the vibrant world of the Asian wedding. The Botanical Gardens are one of Birmingham’s best assets, and the new developments have only added to that. Naturally this is a spectacular choice of venue., and we’re very proud of our ongoing partnership with the gardens as event caterer.”
Established in 2005, Itihaas provides wedding planning and catering in partnership with a number of Birmingham venues including the Hyatt Regency. In addition to its wedding business, the company operates a brasserie in Selfridges and a flagship Indian restaurant in Birmingham’s business quarter.
