Changes at the top for Centro…

Submitted by on January 15, 2016 – 7:20 am |

Pete Bond, director of transport services for Centro.Centro has appointed Pete Bond as its new director of transport services.

He succeeds Stephen Rhodes, who is joining Transport for Greater Manchester as customer operations director.

Pete, who has been at Centro since 2006, was previously head of network delivery and took up his position at the start of January.

He worked with Stephen on the development and implementation of the award-winning Transforming Bus Travel programme with West Midlands’ bus operators.

He said: “Stephen is a huge act to follow but I’m very much looking forward to the challenge of my new role.

“With the on-going development of the Midland Metro and the pioneering Bus Alliance that was introduced last year I am proud to be playing my part in helping Centro deliver exciting times for public transport and passengers in the West Midlands.”

Pete’s new role will see him take responsibility for bus stations, safety and security, rail operations and corporate health and safety.

Previously he was responsible for key operational functions for the bus network away from bus stations.

This included management and maintenance of the 12,200 bus stops and shelters within the West Midlands region including cleaning, upgrading and public inquiries/appeals, and management of railway station car parks.

Pete also played a key part in planning the hugely successful delivery of public transport getting thousands of fans to Villa Park in Birmingham during the rugby world cup in September 2015.

James Aspinall, managing director of Centro, said: “Pete brings huge experience and enthusiasm to his new role and I congratulate him on his appointment, which reflects the contribution he has made to Centro in his time here.

“Stephen Rhodes has been an extremely popular and talented colleague and our loss is Transport for Greater Manchester’s gain, which he joins with the very best wishes of everyone at Centro.”

Centro is the delivery arm for the West Midlands Integrated Transport Authority.

It represents the seven metropolitan councils of the West Midlands: Birmingham, Coventry, Dudley, Sandwell, Solihull, Walsall and Wolverhampton.
