CateringA team of four Hospitality and Catering students from Stratford-upon-Avon College came away with two silver medals and one bronze after competing in a national inter-college culinary challenge.

The Salon Culinaire competition, an annual contest hosted by North Warwickshire and Hinckley College, saw 11 colleges from around the country compete for awards at it’s Nuneaton campus. This is the first time Stratford-upon-Avon College has entered this competition.

Professional Cookery (NVQ Level 3) Apprentice Josh Payne won a silver award in the Bistro Sandwich category in which he was required to design two portions of a sandwich suitable to be served in a contemporary bistro.

Hayley Campbell who is studying a Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Hospitality Supervision & Leadership won a silver award for her Flambé dessert in the Restaurant Live Class.

In the Cold Live Classes category, Luke Draper, who is studying a Professional Cookery (NVQ Level 2) Apprenticeship, won a bronze award for his vegetable cuts.

Daniel Price who is a Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Hospitality Supervision & Leadership student competed in the Cocktail and Coffee Class category where he was required to produce a whiskey sour, a tequila sunrise and a liqueur floating coffee.

Hospitality and Catering lecturer, David Saul said “This is an excellent result and I am extremely proud of the team. Our students rose to the challenge of their first competitive event and one of the things which impressed me most was the camaraderie within the group. It was a great team effort.”
