Richard Moxon, Partner at Pennycuick CoThis year, Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) welcomes four new judges to the RICS West Midlands Awards.

Gareth Morgan, Director of Aitchison Raffety of Cavendish Tate, joins the panel and brings his knowledge as a specialist trading related valuer. He is an expert witness for B&M and is key in developing valuations for commercial properties throughout the UK. Gareth is also an active member in the RICS. He is currently an elected member of the West Midlands Regional Board and has previously been on Governing Council, the management board and is past Chair of both Planning and Development Professional Group and the Membership Board.

Nigel Mason who runs the Birmingham office of Rider Levett Bucknall joins the panel for the first time. As part of a larger nationwide company Nigel ensures delivery of RLB Major Projects including everything from quantity surveying through to project management. Nigel takes a keen interest in reducing our carbon footprint and is responsible for embedding the ‘RLB Responsible Management’ philosophy. This not only reduces client’s carbon footprint but focuses on saving money. Nigel will be a valued member to the judging panel as he already sits on the RICS West Midlands Regional Board and has been assessing APC candidates for over 20 years.

Guy Bicknell of Taylor Wimpey

Gareth, Nigel, Ian and Guy are joining the panel of 11 West Midlands experts. It is the task of the judging panel to visit the shortlisted entries for the eight award categories. The categories are Building Conservation, Community Benefit, Design through Innovation, Infrastructure, Regeneration, Commercial, Residential and Tourism & Leisure.

The final award goes to Project of the Year. This is awarded to the project that scores the highest across all eight categories. Last year Longbridge Town Centre, Birmingham took home the prestigious award. Each of the winning categories are then entered into the National Awards which take place in October.

Chair of the RICS West Midlands Awards judging panel, Richard Moxon of Pennycuick Collins, said: “We are extremely pleased to have Gareth Morgan, Nigel Mason, Ian Young and Guy Bicknell join the panel. We are always looking to broaden our panel’s expertise and the expertise these four can bring is invaluable. We can’t wait to have Gareth, Nigel, Ian and Guy join the panel and start judging the entries.”

The 2016 RICS West Midlands Awards will be held on Friday 20 May at Aston Villa Football Club in Birmingham. Tickets for the ceremony and black tie dinner can be booked online at www.rics.org/awards.
