Glide Utilities Rapid Expansion – Local Firm set to Inspire Britain…

Submitted by on April 20, 2015 – 6:30 am |

Glide team at 2014 awaydayBirmingham based company Glide Utilities, which specialises in providing bill sharing solutions, has been listed in the London Stock Exchange’s ‘1,000 companies to inspire Britain’ and not just for its ability to remove the stress of bill sharing.

Glide Utilities is a flagship company amongst Birmingham’s new breed of confident SME’s, having experienced exponential growth since its inception in 2006. With 39 new starters in the past 12 months alone, Glide’s recruitment focuses upon young local recruits the majority of whom are aged 20 to 25 and live within one hour’s commute of the company’s city-centre head office.

Its strategy to seek out the best young, local talent is one that continues to serve the company well. Earlier this month the energy and services provider hit the headlines after recruiting 22-year old Reece Enfield. The former film production student from Birmingham City University took to the streets wearing a job-hunting board to attract would-be employers. Glide Utilities took notice, and inspired by Reece’s efforts to stand out from the crowd, is delighted to have Reece join its growing team.

With further recruitment anticipated in the coming year, plus a number of paid intern placements for the busy summer months when many students are looking to move into their new shared accommodation, Glide’s recruitment mission is not showing signs of slowing down.

For CEO James Villarreal, the results speak for themselves: “We have almost outgrown the office in Alpha Tower with only a few spare seats and certainly not enough desks for the amount of staff we will recruit over the next year. Work will begin soon to expand the office. The space will pretty much double in size as we’re knocking through to the other half of our floor.”

The Glide success story illustrates just how much potential there is amongst Birmingham’s young people and proves it is certainly worthy of its label as one of the ‘1,000 companies to inspire Britain’.
