Here’s to the Underdogs; Doggy food drive for Birmingham Dog’s Home…
With Crufts 2016 taking place this month, The King’s Head have teamed up with Birmingham Dog’s Home to help the thousands of animals across the area who are less fortunate and are yet to find their ‘forever home’.
Birmingham Dog’s Home was founded in 1892, and still continues to play an integral part in the doggy community in Birmingham by helping shelter, protect, rescue and re-home the city’s abandoned dogs. They even offer their own vet clinic, puppy unit and isolation block and in 2015, they provided care and support for over 3,000 dogs. All of these things do not come cheap, and on top of general running costs, the charity needs to find over 154,000 tins of dog food, over 4,900 blankets and, most importantly, a new, loving home for every hungry hound that comes through their doors.
The King’s Head, Harborne, opened their doors to furry friends and their human companions last year, and have had great feedback on their pooch-friendly pub. Throughout March they are holding their ‘Doggy Drive’ in partnership with Birmingham Dog’s Home to help with the huge amount of donations and funds that the charity need to keep those dogs who have been abandoned fed, watered and loved before they are found a new home.
Jo Scone, marketing manager at The King’s Head said,” As many of our locals are aware, here at The King’s Head we love your four legged friends, but what about the dogs who aren’t so lucky? We thought that this would be the perfect opportunity to help those who haven’t got a loving home to sit in, or a friendly face to greet them at the end of the day. It’s really sad to find out just how many dogs in the area are unwanted and abandoned – this is our opportunity to help them out”.
Studies last year show that between 2014 and 2015, over 100,000 abandoned dogs were handled by vets and local authorities. However, the popular local venue want to prove their love of Man’s best friend by asking their patrons to donate anything that the charity may find of use when they pop in for their pint at the end of the day. From blankets to food, treats and toys – every donation helps.
Birmingham Dog’s Home will be holding a stand at Crufts 2016 (Row 5, stand 160) and are urging dog lovers attending the event to pop over and help to raise vital funds.
