Marston’s PLC is committed to improving its logistics operation and has concluded a new £700,000 contract with Briggs Equipment, which will significantly enhance its materials handling capabilities across the UK.

The UK’s top independent pub retailing and brewing business has purchased 37 forklift trucks and other Yale equipment from Cannock-based Briggs, its long-term equipment and solutions partner.

Marston’s will deploy the machines across 13 of its depots, including Mansfield, Burton on Trent, Shadsworth near Blackburn and Cumberland. New equipment will also go into service at the Park Brewery in Wolverhampton, adjacent to the new look Marston’s House, which recently reopened following a £10million upgrade.

The forklifts will be used predominantly to transfer pallets of beer, spirits and soft drinks and keg and cask products to kerbside lorries for onward distribution to the 1,700 Marston’s pub-restaurants and bars around the country.

Kevin O’Rourke, warehouse operations manager based at Marston’s House in Wolverhampton, said: “Briggs Equipment was the only provider that could offer a complete response to our current needs as well as support for the future development of our business. I am confident that, working together, we can improve fleet management and generate key operational efficiencies across all of our sites.”

Under the terms of the contract Briggs engineers will service and maintain not only the new Yale equipment, but also the entire Marston’s fleet numbering some 160 machines.

Mike Oseland, Briggs Equipment’s key account manager, said: “We’re delighted to be continuing our long-term partnership with Marston’s and using our innovative fleet management technology to support a full asset management programme, we look forward to helping the company to enhance its logistics operation to maximise productivity.”
