Oakland International’s Quality Assurance Supervisor Loretta Wilkes and Quality Assurance Manager, Louise Smith.Multi temperature supply chain specialist Oakland International is a finalist in the Excellence and Innovation Award category of this year’s prestigious Chamber Business Awards to be held at the University of Worcester Arena on Thursday 9th June.

Oakland International’s Quality Assurance Manager, Louise Smith, commented: “We are absolutely delighted to be a finalist in the Excellence and Innovation Award category which makes it a hat trick as it’s the third time this year that our specialist distressed load service has been shortlisted for an award.”

Nominated for their innovative Distress Load Management Service, whereby Oakland reduces food losses for customers, loss adjusters and hauliers on distressed loads, as a responsible company working within the community Oakland’s pioneering service delivers a number of environmental benefits for customers and helps lead the way in innovation and industry change.

The company’s advanced approach and desire to be sector leading helped to create this unique and ground-breaking service that can save up to 80% of produce, which otherwise would be completely destroyed. To date around 1,800 tonnes of food has been saved from going to waste; food which cannot be saved is forwarded to anaerobic digestion plant centres to be used for renewable energy, with nothing going to landfill.

Mrs Smith added: “To be shortlisted in this year’s Chamber Business Awards is evidence of Oakland’s culture, commitment and passion as a responsible family business to embrace innovation and change whilst seeking new ways of working to deliver sustainability; our intention is always to add value and leverage from our expertise for the benefit of our partner networks.”

Oakland International supplies major UK and Irish retail, wholesale, discount and convenience markets from their UK and Ireland facilities.
