Warwickshire College students celebrate A Level success…
Warwickshire College students today picked up another outstanding set of A Level results, with a big improvement on last year’s impressive pass rate.
The college’s students bettered last year’s figure with a 98.3% pass rate – nearly 3% higher than the previous year. The A* to C pass rate for this year has also improved to 71.3%.
Students also achieved better results in their AS levels, with a pass rate of 80%, up over 5% from last year.
Impressively, students achieved a 100% pass rate in 14 A Level subjects, and in 6 AS Level subjects.
Siân Maxwell, 20 from Birdingbury near Rugby achieved A*s in Psychology and Film Studies and an A in English Literature and is now going to the University of East Anglia to study English and Drama. She said, “I wasn’t sure what results I would get so I’m just ecstatic!”
Jade Hartwell, 20, from Rugby achieved a stunning 3 A*s in Physics, Maths and History and is off to Nottingham University to study Physics. “I want to go on to do research and was hoping for one A* but 3 is fantastic. I couldn’t have done it without the support from the college.”
Pradeep Jerome, 20, from Coventry got As in Biology and Chemistry and a B in Maths. He is considering offers from a number of universities to study Chemistry or Chemical Engineering. He said “Coming to college has been much better for me than school – I’ve become a different person and I’m really happy with my results.”
Lexy Cummins, 19 from Coventry, achieved 3 Bs in Sociology, Media and Film Studies and is going to study Sociology at Manchester University. Lexy had started A Levels at Warwickshire College, but left when her mum sadly passed away in 2011. She made the decision to come back to the college after she realised she really wanted to go to university. “I’m so happy – I worked so hard and it has paid off. Sangita, my tutor has been so supportive and it sounds strange but I just fell in love with Sociology!”
Kimberley Wakefield, 20, from Warwick achieved As in Sociology and Psychology and a C in Health and Social Care. She is going to Birmingham City University to study Psychology. She said, “I’ve been up all night and was expecting BBC so I feel completely ecstatic! College has a much better atmosphere than school, and they always have faith in you and keep pushing you to achieve more.”
Sorche Redmond, 18, from Coventry got As in Sociology and Religious Studies/Philosophy and a B in Psychology. She is going to Bristol University to study Philosophy and Sociology. She said, “I’m feeling overwhelmed, and a bit in shock, but happy and excited too.”
Kurt Shead, 21, from Kenilworth, achieved an A* in Law and As in English Literature and History. He said, “I’m really happy to have got my place at Warwick University to study English Literature. I’m a writer, so it’s the place to be.”
Jean Hammonds, Head of Sixth Form at Warwickshire College said, “We are absolutely delighted with our results this year – they are a real testament to the hard work of our students and their tutors.
“It’s fantastic that our pass rate of 98.3% is such a big improvement on last year’s results – and we’ve also seen many more students achieving higher grades, which is wonderful for them. I’d like to wish our students all the very best for the future, whatever they choose to do – they should be extremely proud of their achievements.”
