Firm’s 50-Employee Milestone Underlines Vast Business Potential of UK SMEs…
The recession has undoubtedly taken its toll on British businesses over the past few years, but many firms have hung in there, emerging from the financial crisis in a surprisingly healthy position. Britain’s economy is predicted to expand further in the next year and SMEs will play a vital role in this. With proposed new infrastructure developments – such as High Speed 2, a state-of-the-art railway that will cut journeys between Manchester and London to little more than an hour – set to make the UK’s major economic hubs even more accessible, these are exciting times for British business owners.
According to a recent study commissioned by Octopus Investments and conducted by the Centre for Economics and Business Research, on average, high-growth small businesses created nearly 5,000 jobs a week between 2012 and 2013 – the equivalent of 68% of all new jobs filled in the UK during this period. Prime Minister David Cameron has often referred to SMEs as the “lifeblood” of the UK’s economy, and these figures underline just how important up-and-coming businesses are.
Recently hit the 50 employee mark, one example, Direct365 show no sign of slowing down throughout the rest of 2014 and into the future. Employing the 50th team member represented a significant milestone for Direct365, considering less than 5 years ago they were operating from a small office with fewer than 10 staff.
Direct365 are typical of the resilience that businesses have shown in the past six years or so, as the firm continues to grow year-on-year, creating more jobs in the local area. Providing essential products to other small businesses around the UK, Direct365 have their feet firmly planted in the SME market. Their success, they say, comes from a keen understanding of their market and customers. In growing from a Micro business to employing more than 50 local people, Direct365 say that they have gained valuable experience to support their customers who are also small and medium businesses.
