This morning, the news was announced that three global powerhouses, Snapchat, Daily Mail and ad agency WPP have convened to launch a social media agency named Truffle Pig. As news travels fast, and particularly within the digital space, it wasn’t long before existing social media agency, Truffle Social, were made aware of their new associates who shared the same direction including their services, name and brand ethos.

In keeping with the true spirit that drives Truffle Social which was set up in 2013, the agency’s team, warmly known by their industry peers and followers as ’The Trufflers’, responded to the news with a light-hearted video aptly seeded through social media. In the 90 second clip the team jokingly recall their initial reactions to the announcement in a montage of sighs and banterous quips, alluding to the inevitable downfall of their proportionally minor agency to this new behemoth. Maintaining an ever-chipper attitude, the mood lightens and the the clip concludes with the Trufflers challenging Truffle Pig to a game of beer pong.

Ellie Hernaman, CEO of Truffle Social said, “Most people would see this a corporate giant using the same name as a small team as a negative but though we’ve worked hard under the name for years, we’re truly flattered that some of the largest MNCs share our passion for quality and creativity when it comes to content. They say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and the support that we’ve received from our honorary Trufflers has been heartwarming and we look forward to continuing to inspire brands, companies and individuals, big and small.”

The question stands, will these goliaths accept the challenge, or will they concede to their smaller London cohorts? Truffle Social awaits a calendar request from Truffle Pig and welcomes the peer pressure from their fellow social media geeks to push for the beer pong-off using the hashtag #TruffleVsTruffle.
